Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp

When most people think of Professional Fire Fighters, they think of brave men and women showing up in heavy gear, masks, and breathing apparatuses to help their neighbors put out a fire.  But what happens after the fire has been put out? And what happens in the very unfortunate event that a child is burned in the fire?  Wanting to help with the trauma recovery of child burn victims, your Anne Arundel County Professional Fire Fighters passionately support the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp through their nonprofit, the Anne Arundel County Professional Fire Fighters Burn Foundation..

The Camp was founded to provide an outlet for burn victims, and includes traditional camp activities such as swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, hiking, and sports, as well as an extensive ropes-and-initiatives course. More adventurous activities such as rock climbing, caving, and river canoeing are available for the older campers. These programs promote teamwork and self-confidence, reinforcing the camp’s goal of building the campers’ self-esteem. But above all, the camp is designed to be fun.  Additionally, an experienced staff of adult burn survivors, burn therapists and nurses, and other dedicated volunteers provides unique programs that help campers deal effectively with burn-specific issues.

Your Anne Arundel County Professional Fire Fighters are large supporters of The Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp, sending Fire Fighters as both supporters and counselors – along with significant financial support - to the camp annually.  At the 2019 camp held near Harrisonburg, VA, a check was presented for $40,000 to help support the camp activities.  This support allows for all campers to attend the camp’s activities free of charge.
